Hans Raab

What’s your name?
My name is Hans.

Where do you live?
I live in the wonderful city of Berlin.

What excites you most about the conference?
I’m really looking forward to meeting and talking to so many people from all around the
globe and working together on the topic of the conference, how we can live and find our way together.

What have you been thinking about lately?
Lately I have been thinking about how our society is tearing apart. I have the feeling that all around the world hate against different groups of people is somewhat being normalized. Especially in the internet racism, sexism, homophobia and hate in general is getting really common. But also in the real world. For example in Germany the right-wing populist party AFD has seen an increase in surveys, estimating that 28% of people would vote for the AFD. But also in other countries, racist and undemocratic governments have seen an increase in popularity. I am really quite scared from all of this and I think that we have to fight against this right pressure. I also think that this connects to the topic of the conference, how we not only as an individual, but also as a society have to find our way. In a good and functioning society there shouldn’t be so much space for hate.

What is your most treasured possession?
I love playing and listening to music. I think that music is the universal language and it can really make you feel a lot of different emotions.
